The University College of Estate Management (UCEM) traces its origins back to 1919. World War I had a profound impact on Britain, and reconstruction was urgently needed; however, many important estates and buildings fell into disrepair due to a lack of management. It was against this backdrop that the Institute of Chartered Auctioneers and Estate Agents—the predecessor of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors—founded the College of Estate Management (CEM) to address the urgent post-war need for skilled professionals. UCEM maintains a long-standing degree partnership with the University of Reading. A significant turning point occurred in 2013 when the College received approval from the Privy Council to award taught degrees. Consequently, UCEM was officially upgraded to a University College in 2015. Since its inception, UCEM has remained dedicated to the built environment, training and producing a large number of professionals for the global community.
