Founded in 1982, Coquitlam College is a private college in British Columbia, Canada, accredited by the British Columbia government. Its main campus is located in southwest Coquitlam. The college offers university transfer courses, diploma programs, and English language courses covering disciplines such as business, science, and computer science; credits earned can be transferred to universities in Canada and the United States.
Canada’s Premier University Transfer System
Coquitlam College’s core strength lies in its exceptional university transfer system. Students can complete their first and second years at the college, earning up to 60 university transfer credits, before transferring to partner universities to continue their studies in their third and fourth years, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree from a prestigious institution. Data shows that students transferring from Coquitlam College rank among the highest in terms of successfully completing their undergraduate degrees at SFU. Over the past five years, the college has sent thousands of outstanding students to universities across Canada and the United States. The college has also established a new partnership with the University of Victoria (VIU), allowing students to transfer directly into VIU’s second or third year upon completing their coursework.
High-Quality Small Class Sizes and Faculty
Unlike large public universities, the college implements a small-class teaching model, with an average of about 20 students per class, ensuring that every student receives ample personalized attention. All instructors for university-level courses hold master’s or doctoral degrees, and some even teach directly at UBC. Science-Based Approaches to Earning Canadian College Diplomas
Diploma and Certificates
Students can earn credits for their first and second years of university, which can be used to continue pursuing a university degree at comprehensive universities in the United States and Canada. The program offers three tracks: Liberal Arts, Science, and Business. Taking the Business track as an example, required courses include Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, English, Statistics, Computer Science, and other elective subjects. Students receive a certificate upon completing the first year of study and a graduation diploma upon completing the two-year program.
Flexible Intake and Admission Requirements
The college offers three intakes annually in January, May, and September, allowing students to plan their studies flexibly. The acceptance rate is as high as 99%; applicants must have graduated from high school with a minimum average grade of 60%. Regarding language requirements, an IELTS score of 6.5 qualifies students for direct admission to the main program; those who do not meet this requirement may apply for conditional admission, starting with a language course. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) valid for up to 3 years.
Program Offerings
The college offers four programs: International Trade, Business Management, Accounting, and Computer Science. Each program has a duration of two years and admits 25 students. Upon graduation from these programs, students may transfer to a Canadian university to pursue an undergraduate bachelor’s degree.
