Top Programs and Rankings
Collège de Maisonneuve enjoys a strong reputation in several applied and arts-related programs. Health sciences (particularly nursing), social services, educational support programs, and visual and performing artsare often regarded as the college’s strengths. These programs typically feature clear practical training and internship arrangements, resulting in high graduate employment rates. My observation is that the college prioritizes allocating resources to programs that directly connect to the labor market, making it easier for students to find relevant jobs or successfully transition to university programs after graduation.
Campus Location and Transportation
Collège de Maisonneuve is located in the eastern Montreal neighborhood of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, close to the city’s cultural landmarks and public transportation hubs. This location offers two distinct advantages: first, the cost of living is more affordable compared to downtown, and second, convenient public transportation (metro and bus) makes commuting and participating in the city’s cultural activities very easy. As someone who has lived in Montreal, I believe this location is ideal for students who want to enjoy the conveniences of city life while immersing themselves in the local community—especially those looking to pursue internships or part-time jobs outside of class.
Are Canadian university degrees highly valued?
That depends on how you define “value.” First of all, Canadian undergraduate degrees are certainly recognized worldwide. However, if you’re comparing Canada to the UK and the US, undergraduate degrees from the UK and the US are generally considered slightly better than those from Canada. After the UK and the US, I personally would rank Canada third—with the US in first place and the UK in second. Following Canada are undergraduate programs in regions like Europe and Australia. As a multicultural and open-minded country, Canada welcomes cultural diversity and encourages people from all backgrounds to preserve their own cultures while integrating into Canadian communities. Additionally, Canadian universities like the University of Toronto and UBC enjoy a strong global reputation. Can Canadian university degrees be considered prestigious?
Number of Student Clubs and Organizations
Collège de Maisonneuve offers a wide variety of student clubs spanning academic, cultural, artistic, athletic, and social service fields. From drama and photography clubs to community volunteer groups and career interest groups, students have access to a wide range of practical opportunities outside of class. These organizations often collaborate with campus administration and local agencies to provide students with platforms for curating exhibitions, staging performances, and undertaking public projects. I personally greatly appreciate the school’s culture of encouraging students to take the initiative in organizing and participating in community affairs, as this not only fosters leadership but also enhances students’ social and project management skills.
