To become a CFP® certificant, candidates must pass the rigorous “4E” assessment established by the Global CFP Standards Board:
- Education: Complete an educational program accredited by the CFP Board, covering key areas such as financial planning, investing, insurance, taxation, retirement, and estate planning.
- Examination: Pass the globally standardized and highly challenging CFP certification exam. The global pass rate is approximately 62%, and in some regions, it is as low as 30%, which ensures that certificants possess professional authority.
- Experience: Have at least three years of full-time, relevant financial planning work experience.
- Professional Ethics: Sign a strict code of professional conduct and participate in continuing education on a regular basis to update one’s knowledge.

If a certificate is lost, the certificate holder may apply for a replacement through the following process:
- Submit a written replacement request directly to the CFP Board in your country or region.
- Provide valid identification and include your certificate holder number.
- Pay the prescribed administrative fee for certificate replacement (subject to official notification from the local CFP organization).
- Upon official verification, the organization will issue a new “Duplicate” certificate.
Please note that CFP® certification requires recertification every two years; certificate holders must earn continuing education credits during that two-year period to maintain the certificate’s validity.
