A Century of Heritage: From Pioneer in Women’s Education to Modern University
Edge Hill University’s history dates back to 1885, when England’s first non-denominational women’s teacher training college was established in the Edge Hill area of Liverpool, breaking down traditional barriers to women’s higher education. To this day, the university retains the iconic gold, green, and violet colors of the women’s suffrage movement in its graduation gowns to commemorate this proud history.
In 1931, the institution moved to its current location in the town of Amsc, and in 2006, it was officially granted university status and renamed Edge Hill University. Since becoming a comprehensive university, Edge Hill University has experienced the fastest growth rate among UK higher education institutions, investing over £100 million in campus infrastructure.
